A College Girls Guide to Glammin’ On a Budget!

As a college girl myself, I am always looking for ways to cut corners when it comes to spending money. We all know that being a college student can be quite expensive, but happens when you barely have money left to maintain your beauty needs? You find cheaper options! Here are a b595c3f53d1ab0c5512f5506284b6230some of my favorite ways to keep it cute on a budget.

Shop e.l.f.! My favorite cosmetics line is e.l.f. Cosmetics for two reasons: their products are of great quality and they are super cheap! You can get makeup/makeup tools for as low as $1 on their site and in Target. If you sign up online, you get free shipping offers and coupons once in awhile which is another bonus. One online purchase that I made only came to the total of about $3 (including my free shipping code) and that included three lipsticks all on sale for $0.49 (you read that correctly) and one tube of lip gloss for a little over $1. You cannot beat those kinds of deals!

Try wigs! No, I don’t mean borrow your grandmother’s wigs, but there are tons of sites with really cute wigs for low prices. I have not personally purchased a wig yet, but after watching numerous wig reviews on YouTube, I am convinced that wigs are great options rather than getting expensive sew-ins. If you’re not completely sold on trying out a wig, sites like http://www.wigtypes.com and http://www.sistawigs.com carry inexpensive weaving hair as well. Here’s a look at one of my favorite YouTubers who made me fall in love with this idea:

Thrift, thrift, THRIFT! I am a huge believer in the saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” especially when it comes to thrifting for clothes! I find all of my vintage looks from thrift stores for $3-$10 while other stores sell these looks for way more. A thrift store is also a great place to find business casual pieces which are necessities for almost all college students! Check out http://www.thriftingatlanta.com to participate in their thrifting bus tours!

D.I.Y. Learning how to do my own hair and makeup has saved my pockets many times! We often pay money for glam before events and such, but knowing how to do these things on your own can help you save those coins. Don’t know how to “do it yourself?” YouTube is your best friend. I watch YouTube tutorials more than I check my other social media! This has been super beneficial to my attempt to glam it up for less!

Get it Right, Get it Tight!

It’s summertime, so you know what that means; beaches, sun, fun, and more beaches!844a9a4bc77431188288b3c4798ea8dc Are you still trying to get the perfect bikini body? Even though its already bikini season, it is not too late! Here is a low carb diet that surprisingly works! You may be a little confused by what it requires, but others have experienced great results from this diet!

Bikini Body Low Carb Diet Plan:
For the first 2 weeks of this diet plan, you are allowed up to 22g net carbs per day. ‘Net’ means you subtract fiber from the total amount of carbs listed on a nutrition label because fiber is not digested like a regular carb. For example, if a bell pepper has 6g carbs and 2 of those are fiber, then it has 4g net carbs.  With that being said, regardless of the amount of carbs, this is a list of food and ingredients you must avoid:
SUGAR: Brown, white, pop (soda), fruit, candy, gum (unless its sugar-free) , juice, punch, pastries, pies, cakes. BASICALLY anything sweet that isn’t diet
PASTA: Macaroni, spaghetti, lasagna etc..
RICE: No rice
STARCHES: No potatoes, chips,  no white vegetables ( i.e. cauliflower). No vegetables that aren’t green with the exception of carrots in small amounts and tomatoes. Onions can also be consumed in small amounts as in a few cut up piecesketo-diet-food-list in an omelet.  Corn
BREADS: No breads, white, wheat, Italian, potato, buns, crackers, muffins, biscuits, bagels, etc.
Here are some allowable foods.
MEATS: Non-breaded chicken, turkey, beef, pork, bacon, fish. Sausages and other processed meats are allowed but check label for carb content (remember under 22g per day). Eggs are allowed also.
FATS: This diet DOES NOT restrict fat consumption. Within reason, consume butter, oil, cheese, pork skins, cream, sour cream, mayo, and dressings, (check label b/c certain ranches have a lot of sugar).
VEGGIES: All green veggies, pickles,  tomatoes in moderate amounts, onions, peas, corn and carrots in small amounts
CONDIMENTS: (please include carb amounts of condiments into daily total) Mustard, mayo, ketchup, hot sauce, BBQ sauces and relish (small amounts, pay attention to sugar amounts)
Things to remember:
  • NO NUTS OR BEANS OF ANY KIND
  • YOU HAVE TO INCORPORATE VEGETABLES EVERY DAY TO REMAIN HEALTHY
  • YOU HAVE TO DRINK TONS OF WATER
  • IT WOULD HELP TO TAKE ONE A DAY VITAMINS
Here are some meal and snack suggestions:
  • Omelettes ( with onion, tomato, bell pepper, and your favorite meat or combination of meats)
  • Eggs with bacon or sausage
  • Ranch, caesar, or Italian salads, without croutons
  • Broccoli and cheese
  • Pork rinds
  • Cheese
  • Ranch
  • Meat and veggies in any combination
  • Mexican salads ( meat, salsa, guacamole, lettuce, corn (extreme small amounts),
  • Stir fry without rice or noodles
  • Veggies and dip
  • Chicken marsala or in any sauce without a starchy side and as long as it isn’t breaded or dredged in flower
  • Patty melts without the bun
  • Shrimp with cocktail sauce

While on this diet, it is important to exercise daily or every other day. Even if you do a simple at-home workout, make sure you’re getting that heart pumping and that body moving! Not only will you feel great, but you will look great. Bikinis, here we come!

Words for the soul

Hello Stress, how are you today? Welcome to my life! Make yourself comfortable, I have a feeling you’re going to be here for a while.

Ever have one of those days, where you just feel like wow my life sucks.. Like you’re fine, but at the same time you’re not. Your friends ask you if you’re okay, but you get annoyed that they asked. However, you’re also secretly wanting someone to see you’re not okay.  Well here’s a little word for your soul.. word’s you’re trying to get out but just can’t seem to.

You know that feeling when you’re just waiting, waiting to get home into your room, close the door, fall into bed, and just let everything out that you kept in all day, that feeling of both relief and desperation? Nothing is wrong, but nothing is right either, and you’re tired, tired of everything, tired of nothing, and you just want someone to be there and tell you it’s okay, but no one’s going to be there, and you know you have to be strong for yourself, because no one can fix you. But you’re tired of waiting, tired of having to be the one to fix yourself and everyone else, tired of being strong, and for once, you just want it to be easy, to be simple, to be helped, to be saved, but you know you won’t be, but you’re still hoping and you’re still wishing and you’re still staying strong and fighting with tears in your eyes. You’re fighting.

Preventing Colds..

It’s winter time! And that means that the cold and flu season is already here! Here are some tips on how to prevent catching a cold before it catches up with you!

  • Wash Your Hands!

As cliché as it sounds, washing your hands are one of the most important ways to make sure that you do not get a cold.  I live on a college campus, and it amazes me at the amount of people who simply walk out of the restroom without washing their hands. Undoubtedly, you should make it a habit to wash your hands regularly, which is normally before you eat and after using the restroom. Most cold and flu viruses are spread by direct contact. Remember that there is nothing like good old soap and water.

  • Reduce Alcohol Intake

People with heavy alcohol consumption are subject to suppressing their immune system in a number of ways. Alcohol has also been shown to dehydrate the body.

  • Diet

As I say in almost all of my post, being healthy starts from the inside and then it works its way to the outside. Make sure that you are getting the recommended amount of vitamins and nutrients that are needed for your immune system to function properly. If you feel as if you are not getting the proper amount of nutrients in your daily diet, take some time to look at your meal plan or your grocery list. In addition, try incorporating some great juicing recipes to your diet as well.

  • Exercise Regularly.

Exercising regularly aids in strengthening the immune system by helping to increase the body’s natural virus killing cells. And let us be reminded that exercising is another thing that helps to make our bodies be the best that it can be.

  • Get Plenty of Fluids.

Your body needs hydration, and in order to receive that hydration you must take in the recommended fluid intake that your body needs. Try to drink a glass of water before and after every meal. If you are not a big fan of water, try some natural infused water recipes. (Pinterest should help you quite a bit).

  • Avoid Others Who Are Sick.

One of the best ways to not get sick, is to avoid others that already are. This tip is so simple yet so hard. Just try the best you can to avoid those in the workplace, school, or public places who are showing symptoms of the cold or flu.

Make sure that you are getting adequate rest. Resting is an important process that your body goes through to work and heal. If you are not getting enough rest your body is more susceptible to getting sick.

  • Sanitize Your Space.

Take time out of your schedule to clean your work space and areas that you encounter on a daily basis. This can help to kill germs and prevent them from spreading.

Winter Nail Trend

Looking for something new to do with your nails? Try a new shape. Almond shaped nails are what’s in now. Celebrities as beautiful as Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and even Kim Kardashian are rocking this trend.

To spice it up, or get into the winter spirit, try telling your nail technician to tap  into their Christmas spirit and inner sparkle. Try to design Christmas trees, sparkles, ornaments, stars, and even ginger bread men.

I recently got this shape, and I love them. They are just a very natural version of the stiletto nail shape. I find these to be my favorite so far. So give them a try, and let me know what you think. 🙂
